It Begins…

I don’t actually remember where I first came across the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest. It just occurred to me, as soon as I heard about it, that I should throw my hat into this (black hat or white hat?) as soon as possible. I had my JimGerke.com domain just sitting around with nothing but a picture of my cats Binxy Whiskerson and Greybear on it. So I threw up a quick page in a v7ndotcom-elursrebmem folder. I think that was Feb. 15th or 16th.

I didn’t know how long ago the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest had begun. How surprised I was when a few days later, (maybe a week, but I don’t remember), I looked at my page http://www.jimgerke.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/ and showed a 378 ranking in that little gadget I grabbed from niche dynamics. I’m sure the v7ndotcom elursrebmem keywords will slip into my dreams soon. I’m fascinated by the whole study of SEO and have vowed to keep abreast of the latest developments in this fascinating yet fuzzy science.

I’ve tried to share my interest in the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest with my co-workers, most of whom shake their heads and stare with glossy eyes. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but even if they do grasp it all, they can’t really understand until they throw their own v7ndotcom elursrebmem page into the contest and see the results of their own SEO attempts.

I’ve come across a couple of other SEO contests other than v7ndotcom elursrebmem that are out there at the moment. There is the 'Redscowl Bluesingsky' contest which ends soon ( March 1st ? ) . The other I just noticed today and it is the carcasherdotcom seocontest. The carcasherdotcom has some hefty prizes but does not end until the end of December 2006. I will try some pages for each of these contests as my SEO fascination continues.

v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest continues...

My v7ndotcom elursrebmem ranking has jumped up to 139!!! Sweet! I've got skills. Bow-Hunting skills. Computer hacker skills.

I made some changes to my v7ndotcom elursrebmem page.

First I changed the folder name where my contest page resides from v7ndotcom_elursrebmem to v7ndotcom-elursrebmem. So I killed the underscore and replaced it with a hyphen which I've heard can be better. Preliminary SERP's seem to support this. It took a few days for the hyphen version to show up and the underscore version is still ranking at 380.

Second I contacted some folks who owed me linking favors and got them to link to my v7ndotcom elursrebmem page using the anchor text of v7ndotcom elursrebmem. I've been thinking over some other folder and file/page naming devices that may be helpful for SEO, but let me test them before I share them with you.

My Page Rank for this v7ndotcom elursrebmem page is still at 0. That's not entirely unexpected bacause this page didn't exist 2 weeks ago. However, I'm sure that will change now that I've begun learning all about SEO.

I signed up for Google's AdSense last night. Going to start by putting ads up on my v7ndotcom elursrebmem page. What the heck. Anyone out there have success with AdSense? If you do Contact v7ndotcom elursrebmem and share you experience with me.

v7ndotcom elursrebmem is a learning experience

When I first created my v7ndotcom page, I named it default.html and put it in a v7ndotcom-elursrebmem folder. I don't know why I called it default.html. Anyway, a couple of days ago I decided to change it to index.html. This is after all a learning experience for me and I was curious as to the effect of the change. None of my incoming links named the file anyway, they all pointed to http://www.jimgerke.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/ so I didn't think it would make a difference. However the little rank gadget that I have on my page jumped from the area of 160 to 360, but when I clicked on it to go to the Scorecard Page, it then said I didn't rank in the top 500. This was weird because when I googled v7ndotcom elursrebmem, my page still showed in the 150 to 160 range. Very confusing.

I thought that maybe I should change it back to default.html, but have decided to leave it as index.html and see what happens. Meanwhile I continue to peruse SEO forums and learn more SEO tidbits.

My v7ndotcom page is back and showing up on my scorecard again. In fact I jumped up to 99 and made it onto the scorecards Top 10 Daily Performers for a jump up of 37 places. See my v7ndotcom elursrebmem rankings jump.

Snow in the Desert

We had a rare desert snow just outside of my usually balmy home near Phoenix Arizona. These pictures were taken on Saturday March 11th, 2006 near the town of V7ndotcom elursrebmem, at an elevation of just over 2000 feet. See all of the Rare Desert Snowfall Pictures here.

On matters regarding v7ndotcom elursrebmem, my rankings have slipped again from the 99 area down to the 150ish rank. I haven't updated the page in a week and am wondering if that might be part of the reason for the ranking slip. Otherwise I've slowly been adding my site to v7ndotcom directories, so my incoming links should be increasing albeit slowly.

In any event, I'm still enjoying my participation in the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest. I'll brainstorm and research a bit this week and come up with a plan for pushing my page rank upwards. If you'd like to volunteer some v7ndotcom advice to a SEO newbie, please do so. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, or if you want to talk about the snow, that's cool too.

V7ndotcom Elursrebmem & Rock'n'Roll

I haven't been very active with my V7ndotcom elursrebmem page recently. I've been pursuing my true passion in life which is music. I've been researching and acquiring items to improve my home studio setup so I can record my new CD which is titled V7ndotcom Elursrebmem. I can't help it that I've always loved Sex, Elursrebmem and Rock'n'Roll. One of my favorite bands is The Shins and I've recorded a cover version of their song New Slang. Have a listen and give me some feedback.

Regarding my V7ndotcom Elursrebmem status, my rank had been hovering near the 150 mark but then it slipped down to the mid 180's. However, just a couple of days ago I noticed that my V7ndotcom Elursrebmem contest page now has a Page Rank of 4 where it was previously zero. Yippity Do-Dah!! In addition, my rank jumped up to about 140 and just this evening jumped again up to 110. I'm showing more and more Yahoo and MSN IBL's and I have been slowly and consistently obtaining more backlinks by submitting my v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest page to free directories provided by other v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest folks. I've read that accumulating inbound links at a steady and regular pace can help to improve rank and my statistics surely back up this theory.

Remember everyone as Kasey Kasem said, "Keep your V7ndotcom on the ground, and keep reaching for the Elursrebmem."

3 Weeks Left

Just 3 weeks left in the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest. I've made some modest gains recently and even showed up in the Movers & Shakers section again. Here is a picture of my v7ndotcom elursrebmem gains.

It's easy to see the advantage of having the keywords v7ndotcom elursrebmem in the actual domain. This is a limitation I've had to deal with. One exception is Jim Westergren's site (currently at #1) which does not contain the keywords but instead has his contest page as the index of the folder v7ndotcom-elursrebmem.

Coming soon will be my original composition entitled v7ndotcom elursrebmem (imagine that). Stay tuned.

I Finally Win Something

So I won the daily drawing from John Loch's site for a link from a PR 6 v7ndotcom elursrebmem page. Woo Hoo. I've been trying to win $1500 on the local radio each day, but have only got busy signals, so it's nice to win something. (Although it's better if that 'something' could help me pay off those student loans)

Ordered a new Dell Laptop which should be coming in the next week or 2. It'll be nice to have a second system at home and the portability of a laptop at my disposal. Maybe it'll help me in my attempts to win the v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest.

Only a couple weeks left in the v7ndotcom contest. It's been fun.

My v7ndotcom elursrebmem page current position is up to 72. This is the highest my page has been since it all began. After drifting down from 123 to about 138 a couple of days ago, I made a nice jump of 55 spots, up to 87. This morning when I took a look my v7ndotcom elursrebmem page had jumped another 15 spots up to number 72. With just a little over two weeks left I wonder how close to #1 I can take my contest page?

I've finished writing the lyrics to my v7ndotcom elursrebmem song. I really like them and hope the recording of the song comes out well. The style I'm leaning towards for the song is sort of a Frank Sinatra meets Harry Conick Jr. thing. I may post the lyrics in a day or two or wait until the recording is ready to be heard.
